THETFORD
FOOD SHELF
Food
Shelf Open Tuesday and Thursday 10am to Noon
This
report is an opportunity for me to acknowledge and thank the supporters
of the Thetford Food Shelf. Your cash donations make it possible
for us to purchase a wide variety of items from the Vermont Food
Bank and maintain a well-stocked and well-balanced food pantry.
Our purchases are further supplemented by many, many donations
of canned goods and boxed items that are left at the food shelf.
The
food shelf also benefits from many local events such as the annual
basketball game sponsored by the PTO and Youth Sports, Hike for
Hunger, Crop Walk, admission to an Academy dance, and as a ‘gift’
substitute at a birthday celebration.
We
received a large amount of frozen foods, dairy products, fruits
and vegetables at the close of the camping season at Camp Farnsworth
thanks to the thoughtfulness of Rosemary Whitman and the staff.
Again this year, Andy Rowles kept us supplied with potatoes, onions,
and carrots from his garden. Cy Severance provided his annual
variety of winter squashes.
As
Town Service Officers, I frequently receive requests from social
agencies or individuals for other emergency assistance. While
a portion of our funds are also available for this purpose, I
am fortunate to have the support and cooperation of the Trustees
of Trust Fund so I can respond to these situations.
The
success of the Thetford Food Shelf is due to your continuing support
and contributions and to the volunteers who assist with maintaining
this program. I am pleased to be a part of it. Many thanks to
all.
